Well TCT for that, although I think my review earlier was better.

Plugged this a bit more last night it is very good and huge i have played about 8 hours now and i haven't even expanded out of Italy yet.

There is so much to do you have to manage everything, trade, diplomacy, your cities and your military.  You can play 2 player coop or versus but i haven't even looked at that yet.

The battles are epic and the interface is really good with many different ways to fight the battle.  You have to get it Greg i think you will like it then we can battle :-)

So i have now plugged this for a bit now and i think it is a good game but not amazing.

Compared with Rome 1, Rome 2 has improved several things but has made many more things worse then before.  I won't bore you with all the things i think they have got wrong but to keep it brief they have made the game more arcady and you have less control over economies, cities and armies than you did before.  The whole point with Rome 1 was it was a slow game with Rome 2 they have speeded it up which i don't think is a good thing.

It is now more like Age of Empires with zoom in battles which is a shame i am a bit biased as Rome 1 was amazing and only needed a graphics update and more deverse units but i suppose they had to change somethings.

The annoying thing is that it has been released full of bugs (touch wood mine has been ok :-)) and in a very much beta state with 2 patches already in less than a week.  I hate the fact games get released these days before they are finished and then fix them afterwards whilst customers who have paid money for them have to struggle for weeks/months until it is sorted out.

So in summary the game still needs some debugging and polishing but hopefully that will be done soon.  Ignoring this it is a good game and worth getting i think you will like it Greg and the multiplayer looks good fun.  If you get it Greg one peice of advice get your economy established before you go to war with anyone or your cities all revolt the bastards :-)

Not really sure what to make it Greg, It sounds very much like it worth waiting a fair while for them to sort out the bugs.

What stands out the most for me is that Rome 1.0 sounds much more like my sort of game.

Yes Rome 1.0 is the better game it is just a shame the graphics look a little tired and all barbarian factions look the same.

This they have sorted in Rome 2.0 all factions are unique and the graphics are pretty sharp.

My two main moans about Rome 2.0 is you can't control each city independantly like Rome 1.0 you have to manage them by region sometimes up to 4 cities at once.  The other moan is they have restricted the number of armies you can have and you can only recruit soldiers into an existing army.

With Rome 1.0 you could have as many armies as you could afford and you could recruit single units where ever you wanted.

Like i said it is still a good game and i will carry on playing as i am enjoying it.  It's just not as good as i was hopeing after Rome 1.0 TCT.

I actually have Rome 1; it’s still in its wrapper and has been sitting on my shelf for about 2.0 years.

One of those ones I keep meaning to get around to but I always find other things to do.

From what you were saying about it being slow pace, I find the idea appealing. I like to take my time with RTS games, it gets on my tits when they force constant action and sacrifice the management aspect.

Rome 2.0 is slow paced i have played it for about 30 hours now and still haven't even researched the full tech tree yet.  I think it will be a good 80 hours before i complete the campaign and there are about 10 factions to do it with.

With Rome 1.0 you could manage everything down to a mud hut hamlet in the middle of Germania they have just stream lined the city management a bit but i did prefer full control.

Don't get me wrong Rome 2.0 is very good and i am really enjoying playing it.  The unit diversity and the graphics are really good and i do like some of the changes they have done.

They have just "improved" some aspects of the game that i wish they hadn't.

It sounds like the ‘’improvements’ they made to Homeworld 2. Taking away the fighter fuel and the mining at the end of each level took so much away from the immersion of the game.

Yes what is the old saying 'If it aint broke don't fix it'?

It is a shame because they have addressed the things that needed addressing and done it well but then they have also changed things that didn't need anything doing and made them worse.

I shouldn't moan it is a good game and i will be playing this for a while now and they may patch some of the things i don't like as lots of people are moaning about the city and army management.

I was on last night and the Greek States pissed me off and cancelled they trade agreement with me the bastards.  So being the nice ruler i am i declared war on them, landed 3 Legions in Greece and layed seige to Athens, Sparta and Larissa i think that was fair enough :-)

One change i do like is your Legions level up with experience so if you keep using the same couple for big battles you end up elite Legions which have better armour, hit points, moral etc.

They were basically asking for it by the sound of things. I like the sound of elite legions.

You start with 2.0 legions i left legion 1.0 camped in central Italy and advanced with legion 2.0.  Further legions have just been sent after legion 2.0 to subdue conquered regions and reinforce it.

So legion 2.0 is now rank 6 which gives it stats like +5 melee damage, +5 unit armour, +5 missle range etc.  Also the units themselves have been promoted you their base stats have improved a nice improvement.

Legion 2.0 now kicks ass and is my highest level legion by far is very nice.  Legion 2.0 is spearheading my thrust into Greece :-)

Ok Greg, putting aside the throwing away money thing, the reviews of Rome 2 (others not yours) suck cheesy helm.

I was about to order it but was put off by the huge amount of negative reviews.

I am not going to hold you to this but; if you were me and had a few days to play either Rome 1 or pay money for Rome 2, what would you do?

As you already have Rome 1.0 i would play that for a little bit see if you like the concept.  Then if you like it get Rome 2.0 the reviews i have seen are either love it or hate it check out this review

"I just feel the need to add my vote to counter some ridiculously low marks given, and say what an utterly superb game Rome 2 is.
I had very, very high hopes, as others have mentioned, and was a little disappointed for about ten minutes during the prologue. The controls are familiar but something about the first few minutes playing didn't quite blow me away, perhaps it was the sense of watching a battle rather than planning it, I don't know and it doesn't matter, probably just unrealistic expectations. Then as the prologue unfolded the reality of what I was sat playing started to hit me, the level of detail and design is magnificent, it is glorious.
All the whinging and whining about beta testing this, beta testing that, blah, blah, so what!! It's not perfect, it was never going to be, the AI is still pretty dumb, but for all that it is highly polished and to think this epic game will be getting some love and attention in future patches and fixes just has me salivating even more.
If immersive strategy gaming is your bag then this has got to be about as good as it currently gets, surely...
Onward men! We fight for Rome!!"

I think younger players like the new one where as older players like the old one and slate the new one.  The old one is almost too slow and you can take a whole night just playing one turn!

Best thing to do Greg is install 1.0 and play it for a week and see what you think.  If you like it you are going to like Rome 2.0 yes some things are better some things are worst and its a bit buggy atm but it is a good game.

Good advice, I will endeavour to do that on Friday if I can find a gap between the bouts of frenzied and violent masturbation.

I have had to start my campaign from the begining normal was too easy i will steam rolling over every faction i came across there was no challenge.

So take 2 on hard mode hopefully be more of a challenge.  Greg now i am used to the new economic system i have decided it is a very good game and can't get enough of it at the moment have you played Rome 1.0 yet?
