As I said last night Greg, just add thrusters to the ship I made you - it then becomes really nimble.

Alternatively, look on the workshop or build one! All our ships are back at main base.

I had a word with John today and we came up with a decent plan of action for Friday (sounds like we will have a full house), if you all agree...

Myself, Meg and John will take a capital ship each to go try and raid that main Alien base while Greg and G-Man go through the motions with the tutorial and build a base and do some mining on Omicron. Sound like a plan?

Reasoning behind this is that Greg and G-Man really have no clue what they are doing or how the game works, plus they are low level and need to level up some. They will then get an idea as to the basics, rather than throwing them in at "end-game" (where we currently are) with everything provided for them, built etc.

Thoughts?

Additionally, if a server reset is on the horizon we will have the chance to start from scratch there. To save effectively playing two separate games could we not just join you guys?

You literally have no idea what you are doing though Greg. You missed out on a substantial part of early game, which without at least experiencing a little of, will leave you aimless with no clue as to what is going on.

We have always split off to do separate tasks in this game when the need has arisen anyway - mining different materials, building, farming, hunting, scavenging, scouting etc. It's no bad thing to split off into groups - it gets things done more efficiently.

So, no, I don't think auto-levelling you is a good idea (yet, at least).

EDIT: A server reset is way off, anyway Greg.

Fair enough. Just seem to render the point of a game night a little mute.

How so Greg?

Yea I didn’t see that bit. Fair point, if that’s the way the game is played then no problem.

Indeed, you have to remember that this game is more "survival" than Space Engineers by a long shot. In that respect, it mirrors 7 Days To Die, Ark and GRAV more than it does Space Engineers. It helps that everyone pulls together - in both respects.

Just keeping afloat for the first 20-odd hours was a challenge, with 3 of us. No joke.

The Plan of Action

Myself and 'ol Johnny boy had a chin-wag today and here's what we think would be a good idea for tonight:

1. We get Greg and Dyson through the tutorial (we will both help you and stay with you).
2. In the process of the above, hopefully get some mining done on Omicron (Iron and Magnesium being priority)
3. If we have enough materials after the above, I will get my ship baking
4. Make ammo (and weapons for Greg and Dyson) for our raid.
5. We each take a capital ship (stripped of any resources we don't want to lose) to the alien base and see what awaits us...

I had been thinking about ship allocations too, and came up with the following:

Dyson - I will give him my "USS Yacktown"
Greg - You can have either the "Normandy" or the "USS Brickage" (whichever you prefer)
Me - I will take "The Wedge" (and keep as my primary ship until my new one is done and spawned)
John - Will take his compact CV (after some repairs are made)

You are welcome Greg. We are not short on ships at present, although that could change after our raid tonight ;-). We will have to go back to our main base at some point before the raid to offload materials, you can check out the USS Brickage then. Think of our landing pad as like a used car center :-). The USS Brickage is a workshop ship (The Compact CV - from the thread I posted). You can, of course, mod it to your liking - I had only done some minor changes to it myself so far anyway.

The USS Brickage is smaller than the Normandy - and as such you may prefer it but I am happy either way, since as soon as I have my new ship done I will transfer my flag from the Normandy to that one. The Normandy was built as a "portable base", having everything you need to survive for a long stretch of time on hostile planets. The USS Brickage is a bit tighter on space, so has no farm. You could add one by modding it some though.

My view on the game with regards to CV's is definitely to keep the size down as much as possible, to be fair though, even the Normandy is pretty small when you see what it has packed inside it.

While playing about in creative, I found it's amazing how much fuel you end up pouring into some of the larger builds (especially heavily armoured ones). With my new build I have tried to keep Iron count down to a minimum.

Anyway, I look forward to tonight - plenty to keep us occupied.

Yes my new ship drinking fuel but it is primarily for combat i will keep my Polaris for general stuff

Which leaves the modded compact CV as a spare

Like Greg's way of thinking, I was trying to make all my CV's "all-in-one", jack of all trades kinda-thing. The Normandy and Wedge are both born of this concept, my new ship is simply an evolution of it. It seems a bit silly to have to use different ships for different needs when you can build one that does everything all in one hit. Anyway, that's just my opinion, if you want to go nuts with a heavy battleship and then use the Polaris, go for it.

As much as I love the design of the Polaris, it's very fiddly to navigate and still has a lot of wasted space. I have tried to eliminate these "flaws" to the best of my ability in the new build, which should act as a kind of Battle Cruiser, middle-of-the-road ship, in a similar way that the Normandy was designed for.

John mentioned today that he had been working on a battleship with a front "shield" to take the sting out of the ship's damage. Thing is, it sounds like he went a bit berserk and it costs 20,000 Iron to build! He has since decided to scale back the design a bit, but with any luck we should see his ship in the coming week or so.

I was actually thinking that a simple rectangle design might be good. With turrets placed on the over and under side of the rectangle in mirrored positions, you could provide overlapping cover with eight turrets if placed at each corner or just 4 if placed at the centre of the short edge of the rectangle.

I mean it would look like a bucket of shit but it would be cheap and easy to build with minimum blind spots for the defence network.

Pretty much just described "The Wedge" ship of mine - see if you can spot it in the landing pad image
landing pad image

I uploaded the other day (top-right), it's effectively just a large brick - hence the name "The Wedge".
