This one looks very much like DayZ, and may be worth a look.

It does look promising but again buggy alpha :-(

Wish they would release finished games

Indeed. Another one to keep an eye on. Like DayZ, I have no intention of buying it until it's a little more mature.

FYI, I have been reading about the differences between 7 Days To Die and DayZ. In almost every article I come across, they mention 7 Days to Die as being a far superior co-op game. It also allows players to build bases and the like.

DayZ is described by many as a PvP with grid inventory, whilst 7 Days to Die is a proper PvE, co-op survival game.

Infact, the more I look at these two, the more 7 Days To Die appeals to me over DayZ. I know they are both in early development, but it does seem to be the one to go for. Just some food for thought.

I like the idea of building zombie proof bases :-)

Had a quick go at this last night with Jen, it seems like it could be a good laugh.

It is much simpler to get into than dayZ which is a plus, but lacks a lot of the atmosphere.

Basic premise is that you go out by day, scavenge stuff and fortify your house.

During the day the zombies are really placid and just shamble about shaun of the dead style.

During the night the zombies go mental and switch to 28 days later mode. They go mental and run, and jump and generally fuck you up. If you are outside at night you do not last long. Also at night they will tear through your house to get to you.

The buildings are built like minecraft structures but gravity applies so buildings collapse if not built correctly.

I think this would be worth you guys getting, also there is a 2 pack offer at the moment which brings it to about £15. But then again if you don’t fancy it, no problems as I will play it with Jen.

Hmmm, sounds good. But you have more money than sense Greg. I simply can't afford to buy a game a week. 7 Days Later is even more expensive than DayZ - and both are in early access and buggy as hell apparently.

I might be persuaded if this 2-pack deal brings the price down a little though.

So, is it better or worse than DayZ? Which one would you recommend? Everything I had read suggests that it is....?

Tricky question, they are different animals. I think I prefer DayZ myself as it runs at a slower pace and requires more thought and attention and as there are no second chances the game has more edge.

7 days is more arcade like, supplies are plentiful and had a touch of Aliens about it being held up in a building whilst the creatures attack. It is also much more complete and less glitchey than DayZ.

7 days is basically half price with you do the two pack thing, but like I said, if you guys don’t fancy either of them I am not gonna lose any sleep as Dyson likes DayZ and Jen likes 7 days.

I was hoping you were gonna say one of them was crap to make my decision easier - but looks like it's going to be a bit more difficult for me to choose one of them. Owwwww Gregory you tricky little swine.

Well, in a perfect world I would have both, as I liked the look of them. However, if I had to choose one, which do you think would be the better investment then? I started a wishlist for games on Steam. As you can see it's getting a little out of hand. I think I will be dead before I can buy them all.

Hummm it is tricky. If I had to push one or the other I think you would prefer 7 days but I think Mark would go more for DayZ.

The thing is that there are so many more features planned for both games it’s hard to get a clear picture until I can see which direction they are heading in.

DayZ is soon getting cars, aircraft and base building which I think will tip it for me, but then again it is quite stressful and not all that good for a relaxing game on a Friday.

I think I am gonna have to sit firmly on the fence with this one until the games get some more updates.

The perils of alpha!

You are right of course, they are both very early on in development, which is why the decision is a difficult one.

The main thing about DayZ I was not sold on was the "perma-death" thing... it means you could be playing a character for months... a bit of lag causes you to die and you have lost all progress. That seemed a little too unforgiving for me....but, on the other hand, it also looks really good....but then so does 7 Days....OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW GREGORY X_X WHAT AM I TO DO....DUCK LOOP IS ENSUING...... :-B

Let's see what Maxi-mouse has to say....

The perma death (I like that term, not heard of the one before) is both a blessing and a curse. It is the main thing that give the game its edge and atmosphere, but it’s a fucker when you get killed.

The best way around it is if you are in a group, someone can pickup / guard your stuff and you can re-spawn and pick it up. For example when Dyson broke both his legs I picked up his collection of bobble hats which I can get back to him later.

I will try and record some moments of both games and post them up, this might give a better overview than the few points I have type out previously.

@Maximus: Yeah, that was my main bug-bear with it... it sounds like it would be a PITA, and like Greg said, not make for casual gaming AT ALL.

@Greg: Okay Greg, I look forward to it. Thanks for the help anyways, even though it has actually made my decision even harder. ;-) I really need to know if Mark is interested in the 7 Days 2 pack first, because if he is not, then there seems little point in me buying it for double the price on my lonesome.

@Maximus: So, Mark... 7 Days 2 pack? Interested? If you are, can you pick it up and I give you the dollar when I see ya next? Whaddya say?

Just some additional info to throw at you guys, if you are interested:

I have been looking into the server setup for both this and DayZ. Currently, DayZ does NOT allow users to host their own dedicated servers, with no indication as to when this feature will appear (although it looks like it will eventually).

7 Days however, supports this from the get-go, meaning if I were to purchase it I could set us up a dedicated server. We could make it public, private or whatever as our needs require.

Yea sorry I should have mentioned that. You can rent a server for dayZ at the moment but you cannot make it private, which sucks. This is currently the biggest bugbear for me as I was going to set up a little server for me and Dyson to play on. But if am buggered if I am gonna pay £40 and then not be able to make it private.

A persistent server for 7 days would be good. The game gets harder as times goes on as you need to go further and further for supplies and the enemy’s get harder as time goes on.

When you start a single player game in 7 days it is always joinable by other players. Also I believe it saves your progress when you exit so you don’t have to start again each time. So even without the server it is playable.

Well, all things considered I am definitely leaning towards 7 Days at the moment. The fact that I can set up a server straight away and no permadeath is winning me over. I like the fact that things get progressively more difficult as time goes on too (although I suppose the same could be said about DayZ). Moreover, DayZ looks to be more PvP against humans than PvE zombie survival (another big minus in my book).

All I really need to know now, is if Sir Maximouse is interested. It seems stupid for me to pay full wack for it, then he gets it a week later when we could save some cash on it by buying them together.

I would say go for it but Greg is gonna be off grid for a bit during the move if I recall correctly. Might be worth hanging fire, that way I can get a better feel for it and let you know if it’s worth worthwhile.

Failing that dyson might wanna go 50/50 on it.
