That'd be cool. Let us know when (and if) you are on and we can sort something out.

How is the moving all going?

Got a text from Dyson saying that 7 days looked good, but in typically ambiguous fashion didn’t actually say if he would get the game or join us tomorrow.

Okay, cool, we shall see what becomes of it then. Be nice if we had a good team playing. Let's hope we don't all spawn at different corners of the map, as it looks quite big.

I had another go at this night and managed to do a little better.

Day 4

On my daytime wander I found a lake and wondered how water affects Zombies. So I decided to build a small cave right at the edge of the lake, leaving only a short swim as the only entrance. I slung up some torches and a sleeping bag, just in time for the night time frenzy. Night time came, and Zombies poured in through both my front entrance, and also smashed through the roof. I died, respawned, died, respawned and died again. Bummer. Although the plan did not work as intended, I did learn a lesson - Zombies can walk through the lake, but are slowed down significantly when doing so.

Day 5

I headed out to find materials as fast as I could (as I had spunked pretty much everything on my last failure). I chopped down some trees and gathered some stone. I headed back for the lake and began laying down a rough foundation in the middle of the lake out of wood, stone and anything else I had to hand. I slung down some torches, a campfire and sleeping bag and sat there singing camp-fire songs whilst eating a can of Tuna.

When the inevitable night time frenzy came, I was pleasantly surprised at how well this worked. Zombies had to wade all the way through the lake before they got to me, giving me plenty of time to pick them off with a pistol or shotgun. To my surprise, I actually made it though my first night without dying. :-)

Day 6

After the success of the previous night I went on yet another scourage for resources. More wood and stone. I then began crafting some better walls on my little "island". I re-enforced some with metal sheeting and started on windows to shoot out of. I just managed to do this as day ended, and the fun began. As per the previous night, I was picking of zombies as soon as I could (they were coming from 2 different directions so this was difficult).

At one point I heard a smash, as some of my island sank into the lake. It was a zombie spitter (just like the ones from L4D). He was sitting on the shore, spewing green shit at me. It was literally dissolving all my wood. Stone seemed okay, but since I had cobbled the base together out of wood, it, er, fell to pieces. I dispatched as many zombies near me as I could and waded through the lake to get closer to the spitter and shot him in the head. Upon returning to my island, I found it in poor shape, but still salvageable. The sun rose as I picked off the last few Z's and I made it through another day! :-)

Loving the game. It's great how the first night went okay, but they started to mix things up the second night and caught me by surprise. I only just made it through the second night alive, and was in poor shape with no supplies afterwards.

Sounds like wicked fun. I think it might be a good idea to develop the lake idea a bit further tonight.

I shall bring my engineering prowess to the fray and see if I can’t totally bollocks up your design.

I suppose with two of us it will be easier to gather resources so we can build grander buildings.

Yea, it's a great laugh - and that's on my lonesome. With a few of us playing I imagine it will get really good fun.

Two of us will help immensely. We will hopefully have double the resources and double the manpower to build stuff before nightfall. Not only that, but I was struggling to cope with the sheer number of them on my own. With two (or more) of us, we can take up positions and perform some textbook (or not as the case may be ;-)) zombie slaying.

I reckon, the more people the better, as everyone can contribute in some way.

It brings back memories of Garry's Mod with that onslaught map - us building a base only to have it torn to shreds by the never-ending swarm of enemies. Only this is so much more fun as there is way more to it. Food, ammo and supplies are in short supply, making daring dashes for potential stashes quite fun too.

Anyway, I am waffling on. I look forward to tonight :-). Any idea what time you will be on? And is the G-Man joining us?

I have given up asking him to be honest so the only definite is me.

I would say I would be on at about 6ish? That sort of depends on work but if I am going to be a lot later than that I will text you and let ya know.

Just a thought, but as they turn up and wreck the building you are in, how about we knock up something simple and functional as a sort of temp base. When that is up and running we can work on a better base during the day and leave it at night. My thinking being with this approach we will save on having to rebuild the main fort every night until we are ready to move in.

Cool, I look forward to it.

Yes, I like your thinking. This would be really difficult to do on my own, since you don't have the time to work on two things at once. With the two of us, I think that sounds like a great plan - and well worth trying.

The other thing worth considering, is finding a place to set up the base that is not too far away from an existing town/settlement - so we can raid it for supplies during the day.

From my limited experience, I found the towns to be one of the most difficult places to be during the night, but having one within range would be a god-send, since ammo and food runs out fast.

Ok so we need to find an area with some water, preferably adjacent to a large town. Should help us settle on a place to set up shop nice and quickly.

Yup, sounds good to me. Let the games begin... (in 6 hours :-(

Why is time moving so slow today? It's almost going backwards.

Had a pop at 7DTD with Jen last night and made some discoveries that might be useful:

- I found out how to make a crossbow & arrows, this was really handy for preserving other ammo. I forgot to take a screen shot of the recipe but will do so next time I am on.

Note:- I think a separate thread with recipes and notes would be worth doing.

- Repairing weapons: Not strictly repairing them but if you have for example 2 shotguns on 50% damage, place one in the central crafting box, then put the other one in one of the squares around the centre box. Doing this turns two shagged guns into one good one. I think this works with all items as long as the items are identical.

- Iron: is essential as it is the basis of tools. I found that the bridges have an iron railing around them that you can punch and get a good store of scrap metal that can be turned into iron.

- Source of rock for our base: Instead of picking up rocks, if we all get a pickaxe we can dig a small cave base just to one side of the lake. This will provide us with all the rock we need and if we build it carefully it will serve as a good ‘temp base’ whilst we build the lake fortress.

- Farming, I built a ‘ho’ and had a go at putting down some spuds, not sure if this has worked yet but if we can make a nice walled off area and keep the zombies out, this should stop us having to do constant food runs.

Nice one Greg, some good tips there. I am sure I told you guys about the weapon repair one friday. Anyway a seperate thread is a good idea. How about a seperate forum for this game to?

I did have a quick go on this but i didn't really know what i was doing and i also spawned at night!

I think i need to come on when you are both on so i can learn the ropes

One question ever time i died i respawned on the edge of the map even when i had gone a few places when it was day.  I know you said something about a sleeping bag do you start with one or do you have to find/craft them?

You have to craft one. I did a post in here somewhere with a link to some recipes,  check that out.

Must have missed that tip then Greg.

So you found the base yesterday then, I was going for a sort of modular build putting together a few rooms then joining them all up later on. It took a while getting all that rock just by picking up what was on the floor, mining it is defiantly the way to go.

Yes I found it and began extending it. It also has a sleeping bag and storage chest in it with some essentials. I made a pickaxe and an axe and it only takes 2 hits with the pickaxe to destroy stone, so very handy. We will have to set up a mining expedition ;-)

Good call with the farming, I had not messed around at all with that yet so will have to try it out.

I was hoping to get enough stone to do an upstairs on our fort. You can make stairs from stone too.
