Ah yes, space travel for "real men" then? Well, sounds like they have made a few improvements since then. You will probably find it too easy now.

It still sounds good to me, it was such a pain to fly anywhere that I concentrated on Kerbin orbital things more. It will be nice to go to some other planets now it's a bit easier.

Yet another day, yet another KSP first for me. Successfully landed on Duna and got a Rover to the Mun. Screenhots here. Also got another space station in very low orbit around the Mun.

Must say, I think I am actually getting the hang of this game now. :-)

EDIT: And I got a space station in orbit around Minmus :-)

So Greg as i am going to be spending the next few hours on KSP designing/testing a vessel capable of reaching other planets what sort of fuel requirements am i looking at?

Or is it better to refuel in orbit from my as yet unbuilt space station?

From my limited experience, orbital fuel stations and modular multi launch – orbit assembled vehicles are the way to go.

I disagree with Greg. The sheer amount of time spent pissing about docking is really not worth it. Build a better rocket instead. I managed Duna no problem without the need for a re fuel.

Well i got a station in orbit but there are already things i want to do differently with it so i may relaunch it but i did get a lot of fuel into orbit which may come in handy

First station attempt
First station attempt

Didn't get on too well with a long range rocket but i was trying to make a 3 man one i think it will have to be a one man ship to start with couldn't get the big ones safely into orbit with enough fuel to go anywhere.

Managed to get on again tonight :-)

Changed the station a bit and re-launcher but didn't use shielded docking clamps so lost a couple on the way up :-(

Station Mk 2
Station Mk 2

Then shielded the docking ports and put one round the Mun

Mun Station
Mun Station

Spent a bit of time designing a long range rocket and came up with this

Fat Boy
Fat Boy

I couldn't resist having a quick shot at the Mun

Mun here we go
Mun here we go

I had to dump one full double tank and 3/4 of another doubler to get down to my landing stage but it was looking good

In the pipe 5 by 5
In the pipe 5 by 5

Then just i was about to touch down i attacked by windows sticky keys!

Doh
Doh

Never mind it was only a practise definately getting the hang of this now at last. So next challenge is either docking or another planet.

Think i had better read up on both :-)

Refined the station a bit and re-launched this time without loosing any bits during ascent :-) I plan on adding to this one making it a monster space station but i really must learn how to dock first.

Duck Station in high orbit

Greg i think Greg is right about modular launch it is not worth it best to get as much as you can up in one go. I got this into orbit in one piece just needed lots of rockets!

Duck launch
Duck launch

It is a bit excessive i know but i found it fell apart at about 20K up with bigger rockets but then i am that sort of person

Each to their own with the multi-stage approach I suppose. I think it becomes more necessary as you venture further out into the system.

You could be right Greg for some of the further out planets

The problem with modular launch is you have to dock them together and docking is really difficult and if you cock it up you can blow up both vessels which would be a pain.

Practice makes perfect and all that. I know it's a pain but the more you do it the easier it gets. As I mentioned in my earlier post, it was my intention to practice descent / ascent / docking using a LEM and a station orbiting the moon.

The reports of my death / sickness / harry-infested slumber are overrated. Although not entirely inaccurate. After a leisurely trip to Colchester Zoo I decided to come home and play on KSP for a bit (as I am that sort of person), and this
this

is the fruits of my wonderous game time. I hope you like it. It is "Option Station". Possibly the best station that ever existed.

I will wait not for you adoption slags. Your motto should be "If it ain't broke, don't let me near it".

Sling up some screenshots of your Adoption Station when you get it done then Greg.

Well made it to Eve safely although not quite the landing i wanted

My first Kerbie on Eve
My first Kerbie on Eve

Ran out of fuel just before landing had to ditch the lander :-(

However i did royally cock up my transfer and wasted loads of fuel sorting it out so i will have another go at some point Duna next :-)
