I know we have touched on this subject before and you guys are not particularly taken with subscription gaming, but I have been chatting to some guys at work who play EVE o and I am really tempted to give it a go.

I am enjoying Evochron but I think that EVE may provide a good next step. I have shit loads of time off over Christmas so I was going to have a pop at the free trial a bit later in the year. If by then you guys want to give it a go to, do join me.

No thanks. I won't be paying for any subscription games in the near future. Besides, we only just got Evochron! Bearly scratched the surface of that and now you want to abandon it for EVE?

Fair enough. Like I said I am enjoying Evochron but EVE is simply more diverse. The static trading in Evochron means that we have read from others the best way to make money, emulated it, made enough money to get anything in the game. To me it doesn’t leave a huge amount of room for expanding upon.

Cool, well good luck with it, but I shall not be joining you. Perhaps you can persuade Maximus to - but I know he is swamped with games ATM anyway.

Won't Mark have something to say about that? ;-)

So you have given up on EM now then? - I need some help in the main quest to destroy a carrier.... :-)

No I still like Evochron, and if you guys do not fancy EVE then I will carry on playing Evochron with you.I am just doing the free trial with EVE to try it out, not sure if it will be my cup of tea or not but it’s worth a look.

I think long term it offers more than Evochron but I am not sure if it is worth paying for. We shall see.

Good luck then. I tried it back when it came out and didn't really click for me. Plus the subscription thing. I really hate sub games - as you feel you have to play it loads to get your monies worth.

Regardless of how great it is (or isn't), you can 100% count me out I am afraid.

The beginning of that was supposed to be – Each to their own, I think it justifies the cost with the continual evolution of the game but its……

Had a go last night, I made a hideous ginger minger of a character, took off from a space station in an escape pod as I forgot my ship, flew back into the station, then had my tea.

It might be a bit a bit early to tell if it is any good or not yet.

The interface with ships is nowhere near as good as Evochron, you direct combat action by clicking on a target and issuing instructions. However the game itself is immense and every aspect of it can be taken to the extreme.

I really enjoyed doing the mining on Evochron, but after the trade runs provided so much money it rendered it pointless. Just for an example with this you can spend up to a year training in skills for just mining, This results in you having a fleet of mining ships, haulers to carry ore around and Nostromo type refinery platforms for producing refined materials. That is the depth of JUST mining.

I am going to have another go on it tonight and actually try and do something . Initially it is a bit overwhelming but I can see myself getting into it.

Sounds like you Gregged it up.

The game itself seems a bit meh from what you have said so far anyway.

To be fair Greg it doesn’t really matter what I say here as you have made up your mind on it anyway.

Not true. I have made up my mind not to play it, but not if I like it.
