Meh. I have done a few sub-based games before and I doubt I will do one again, unless it is truly brilliant. This is one of the things that puts me off EVE.

You always feel like you must play it just to get your money's worth. Moreover, I tend to switch between games or leave a game for a few months then come back. As such, the subscription model never really seems to fit me.

Well Gregularse, each, own etc. It is something that I do fancy trying as it seems like it is what that X3 should have been.I still have not got a clue what that game was about.

It went something like this:

Spend 30.0 minutes looking through all the controls then attempting to undock. Having absolutely no idea what any of the HUD does, or any of the controls do, just randomly start pressing buttons. Crash. Restart (repeat 3.0 times). Finally manage to undock then realise you have no idea how to fly. Look through controls again. Fly around aimlessly for an hour. Finally find something to shoot at. Dead. Restart.

Spend the next week reading up on all the cool things you can do with the game. When you sit down to play it again, you realise you still have no idea what is going on or what to do. Fly to another system, to find something to do. Die. Die again. Die again. Throw game out of window. The end.

This was pretty much my experience with the game.

Same here really, I am just wonder if I was young and foolish and didn’t give it the time it deserved. Also it ran dog slow on my PC; I think it should be ok now though.

It is a shame, because on paper it looked like the space-game of my dreams. Brilliant graphics, deep, huge, engrossing universe, loads to do such as building space stations, commanding fleets, taking over entire systems, etc etc... A shame I was just so awful at playing it really - or that the tutorial was non-existant and it was just impossible to get to grips with. Couple this with the fact it was so unforgiving just about ended it for me.

I tried it out again a couple of years ago. My experience was even worse - since I did not even manage to get into the game. I found out it simply refused to run on Windows 7. No doubt this has been fixed now though. Maybe another trip to X3 is worth it, while we are waiting for Star Citizen...? It's just a shame it is not multiplayer.

If you look at all the videos on YouTube it looks pure awesome. Why couldn't I play THAT game?

I think I already asked you this but I can’t recall the answer, can you use a joystick for freelancer?

LOL - good luck! I would genuinely like to know how you get on with it. If you succeed in actually playing the game you can give me some tips and maybe then I will be able to play it :-)

In addition (while we are on the subject of joysticks), I even went out and bought myself a kick-ass joystick for use with X3.... only to find I have never used it since, because the game royally pissed me off and I have no other games that require/support one.

Same here, but I did have some flight sims that it was relegate to.I don’t hold out a lot of hope really but I hope to have a bit more spare time soon which I intend to spend playing games.
