Don't know if any of you liked the original Homeworld games, but Gearbox has apparently bought the franchise. Given their previous experience with other franchises, I wonder if they will get it right this time? Full article is available here.

I played the first one and quite enjoyed it. If this new one turns out to be any good I will definitely take a look see. Surely Gearbox can't make the same epic mistake 3 times in a row (Duke Nukem then Colonial Marines).

If you get a chance Greg(s), pick up homeworld 2 and download the complex mod (which is free). It is like a completely different game; closer to the game the developers wanted it be.
Some of the cool features are:

The unit cap is massive increased.

Research tree expanded.

Much more fleet management required (crew availably is now a factor).

More new units than you can shake a stick at.

Mining is much more involved by introduction of logistics.

Basically it's the nuts.

Sounds pretty decent, Greg. Given that they said they are going to...

...preserve and assemble the purest form of the original acclaimed and beloved games, Homeworld and Homeworld 2, with the intent of making them accessible on today's leading digital platforms.

...they may be re-released sometime in the near future, so I will wait and see what happens.

Mind you, this is exactly the sort of promise they made over aliens, which turned out to be Bull Poo.

Yes, that is the worry. Safe way to play it is to wait until it comes out and see what it's like, rather than pre-ordering me-thinks.

What is the premise of Homeworld (I was being lazy and didn't want to read a review)? From what I saw it wasn't a Star Wars game, but I saw an Impirial star destroyer in a picture online. Was that probably a mod?

P. S. When I mensioned the Star Wars thing I wasn't implying I was only interested in Star Wars games, I was just interested.

Josepi, Homeworld is essentially a standard strategy game, you collet resource, build units and fight the enemy. The difference is that the battle space is three dimensional; you can attack from the front, back, bottom, top and side simultaneously.

You start with a Mothership and build units from fighters and corvettes up to battle ships and carriers. You have full control over each unit setting formation, actions & tactics (passive, neutral or aggressive).

Asteroids are the main source of income with are collected with harvesters, a logistical chain is required to get resource back to your Mothership which is an interesting challenge as well as a potential way to cripple the enemy should you wish to take that route.

The single player campaign has a really good storyline and the game is generally worth a look as it must be dirt cheap now. The only proviso is that the graphics will probably look fairly dated now

It is a real time strategy/combat game set in space (not Star Wars space though :-))

Where you build manage and deploy fleets for epic battles.
