Initial Impressions It's good. Think of what Battlefield 2/3/4 would be like if viewed top-down with much more tactical elements. Think of a hybrid between Alien Swarm and Battlefield 2. That's basically what it is. Even though I played single player (with an fairly large amount of AI "players") I found it rather enjoyable.
You get to command a squad (and later, whole armies with better toys such as air strikes and the like to play with) to wipe out the enemy and conquer areas of the map. Once conquered you get access to all their vehicles and weapons - and new spawn points. The armory is surprisingly large and you can outfit your character exactly how you like to play. The vehicles are quite cool as well and the AI is not stupid.
There seems to be a lot to learn - which must be done via trial and error since the tutorial is pretty weak. Saying that, I think I picked up most of the basics fairly quickly. Once I had sorted out the controls (crouch and prone are for some weird reason not set as toggle keys by default) I got on quite well and won a few matches/missions.
For multiplayer, this would be totally awesome. We can all command a squad and have some fun with this doing missions and planning the ultimate attack. I know for sure you guys (loving your RTS games) will enjoy it and... I already do. It would be a great game to just dip into for an hour or so or would also work as an all nighter - it would be quite robust in that respect. You can play the campaign together co-op as well - I think it's even drop in/out.
Lastly, I heard mention of a map/level editor...
