Looks interesting... but very similar to Space Engineers.

Just answered my own question.

Also there is currently no PvE in the game at the moment - making it similarly as aimless as Space Engineers. This is something that is planned for later though.

That’s a bit of a shit, the video sort of made it look there was PVE. You are right, if there are no enemies to fight it may as well just be SE with worse graphics.

I cant see the link at the moment predictably, I didn’t know it was available for free.

Definitely take a look at those links when you can Greg - it explains it all for you.

Short of it is though - maybe not quite yet.

Worth a read.

On a related note I have been wondering about this - the game could actually be worth a shot if we opened up the server to the public. I am not normally a fan of doing this because of the idiots you then get on there - but at the same time it does present some new challenges, opportunities and fun. Maybe give ourselves a month or two to get acquainted with the game and get some stuff built and then open it up for everyone.

We could even do a similar thing with GRAV if we got bored. I could do a backup of game data before we open it up incase we want to go back as well.

Just some food for thought...?

Top idea Jeg. If you keep having good ideas like this your foot might fall off.

Well TCT for that. At least it's not my hand falling off - that would be a disaster for so many reasons.

Here is that ship I saw last night on StarMade - pretty much my first sight in the game.

...and my last on that server, since when I came back on my ship had disappeared and I was miles away from anything with no materials to build another one. Game over man, game over.

Anyway I am less sure about this game after trying the demo. Its very very complicated, the tutorial is a mess (when it even works) and it is a complete nightmare to know what you are doing. Add on to this the fact that the sound has some serious issues, the controls are awkward at best, infuriating at worst and I struggle to find much that will entertain us here. The graphics are basic (not a serious issue, mind) and with just a few of us on this absolutely massive game world I think it would feel very empty. I joined a server with about 100 players and even that felt empty and void of any life - especially since there are no AI enemies at all.

I would highly recommenced you guys try the demo and tell me what you think because I was not particularly impressed with my first hour or so. Planet Explorers is looking to be the safer bet right now in my eyes...

Cheers for the heads up on that one Jeg. I will indeed take a look at the demo on Saturday and feed back my thoughts.

It is nice to have the adoption to have a play of a game before you buy it.

Oddly the concept of it being complex somewhat appeals to me. I liked doing the logic blocks in space engineers and sort of enjoyed working out X3 was a nice challenge. To some extent I think the emptiness of the game could be offset by the fact it requires an effort to work it out.

Also, if this is gash, what about Elite: Dangerous. It looks nice if nothing else.

You would probably like the complexity of it Greg - there is so much you can do. That in itself is not a bad thing, but when the tutorials to tell you how it all works don't work correctly, are filled with terrible spelling and grammar mistakes making it difficult to even read it makes it a bit much to try and get into. I have no doubt that once you have the systems all sussed out it would be better, but after "completing" the tutorial and being thrown into the game I literally had no idea what to do.

It also seemed fairly buggy. I had sound issues where it would crackle, loop over or go completely. The controls were nasty as well. Rotating with the Z and X keys was so fast as to be completely unusable.

Anyway, as I said, I would be interested to know what you guys think. It is great that they actually offer a demo - this is something I have missed in recent years so on that basis alone it is well worth a shot. With all of us working together to try and figure it out it *may* be worth a go, but the lack of PvE is really going to limit us at the moment.

As for Elite - I have heard about that but not really looked into it.

That Elite game gets some mixed reviews from what I have seen so far. It gets called a massive "grind" quite often, as well as "shallow". The trailers look good though - but we all know how deceptive those can be and I am not even sure how much of them are in-game video. It also looks to be another EA game. I will wait for one of you guys to try it before we go down that route.

Bring on Star Citizen already! :-)

Yea, I think this would just be a stop gap really. I might give it a go after homeworld, if its good I can always talk you guys through it if you wanted to give it a go.
