Ok cool. You have to do a fairly long winded tutorial before you can even play co-op. I am dreading having to do all that again for our co-op characters. I would rather dive into that Rifle game tonight. Have you seen the vids of it? Looks like it's right up your alley.

It does look good but I am struggling to find time to get on the computer at the moment so I am going to settle on Dying light for the time being. If you guys find it to be worth a punt I will pick it up at some point down the road.

Shiny! I hope you like Dying Light, it's a really good game. Not too sure on how well the co-op will work yet, it has an annoying feature where all players must be together to speak to anyone regarding missions. Apart from that it should be a blast. It's much more "lethal" than most zombie games and is all the better for it IMO.

I am looking forward to it. So do I need to wait for you guys to do coop or do I just start and get to a certain point then wait?

The latter, start, get to the completion of the first proper mission and the game will tell you that you can open it up for co-op.

Problem is, both myself and Meg will have to go through the same hour long slog again as well, before we can even play together co-op. It's a shitter, I don't know why they didn't have a "skip prologue" option.

Hint: Ensure you set your online options to "friends only" (once you "unlock" co-op) or else any old joe can jump in and fuck about with your game.

Hint 2: Increase the FOV, it makes it far less nauseating (especially the free-running) and you can see around you better as well. Think I notched it up by 10 to get a pretty good experience. I believe 65 is standard for shitty consoles, about 90 is standard for PC games - and makes for a much better experience (trust me, although I don't think I went that high, as mentioned). Adjust to your preference.

Yes Greg decline the other one i don't think it will let you have 2 copies but just in case

I am having a little trouble getting the green light for tonight and if i do it will have to be an early one for me like 11 ish but i am hopeful this will be accepted :-)

If not i should still be able to jump on quick and sort the weapons out will let you know asap TCTFT

PS the grappling hook is very cool just like the one from Just Cause

Square enough Megularse.

I think we should forgo Dying Light for tonight if that is the case though, since all of us need to put a good hour into the game BEFORE we can even play together, meaning the evening has been effectively wasted.

Might be best to plan Dying Light for next Friday and all of us will then have the time to get a co-op character through the prologue.

Thoughts...?

Righty, so given my situation I don’t know if I will be about next week if I am on tonight; however, if we are writing off today I may as well blow it off and arrange to reconvene next week if possible .

Do next week Greg - I really didn't want to have to waste an hour (or more) doing the prologue again tonight, as you may have guessed. That's my vote.

If we arrange for next week we can all just jump in and play without any faffing around - and by then you will also understand the basics.

I will have a go at it tonight and show Jen, that might convince here to have the other key off you. I will get a character up and ready for next week.

This sounds like a better plan. I will get a character up to speed for next week as well.

I only played it for about 30 mins but it seemed good. It is a bit hard to kill the zombies with the shitty weapons you get at the start.

I think that's intended - hence the free-running and other tools at your disposal. Dead Island this is not - well, at least not until you start levelling up and getting better weapons. Infact, I found the beginning few hours of the game to be my most fun so far. After getting a few better weapons and levelling up, zombies are no issue at all and it kind of ruins it a bit (for me at least) - it turns into a zombie slaughter instead of planning and "survival" (which I quite enjoyed). So much so that I am finding I am getting bored with the game now. The careful planning of how to take on objectives, thinking on your feet when things go wrong and using everything at your disposal is thrown out of the window in favor of "swing, smash - Rambo style", rince and repeat. I even updated my Steam review (here if you are interested) to reflect this, since my initial impressions of the game have changed somewhat.

So i finished this last night is very good and don't worry the zombies in Old Town (second map area) are a lot harder than the first and night time is brutal.  Although you get better weapons they still break pretty quick i am enjoying the medievil long sword at the moment :-)

I also saw they have released the game on the workshop so mods well be coming soon

So i have a supply of better weapons for our coop game if we want to do that but they will break quick until we level up and can fix them better.  Are we going to start our coop game on Friday my coop character is ready to go?

I noticed you been plugging that quite a bit. I am kind of in two minds about the whole killing Z's getting easier (too easy) in this game. On the one side it's cool, but on the other it seems to wreck a great mechanic in the game - one that it does really well. I am half tempted to suggest that we don't use your uber-weapons for our co-op game Meg, as it could ruin the beginning (especially for Greg who hasn't played it yet)... what you rekon?

Saw this too, thought that was pretty damn awesome - can't wait to see what marvellous things people come up with for it.

My co-op character is ready to go as well, so whenever really. It's a bit of a shame we haven't got a 4th person like ol G-Man to go through it with us but hey-ho. If we get the time I would also like to try out Running with Rifles, or failing Friday then maybe a day during the week? Just remember I am off on holiday next week so if not this week it will have to wait for a bit.

Just a heads up Greg, myself and Megneto had a quick chin-wag regarding this last night and agreed that all the uber melee weapons Meg transferred over will be removed so we can play "vanilla" so as not to ruin the game experience in early levels.

Yes agreed we go vanilla apart from one pistol each but no assault rifles, katana's etc.  I do have spare pistols for that mission where you have to give it away i hated that it takes ages to finally get a pistol then you have to give it away :-(

I spoke to Dyson last night and he does want to have the last copy of DL and he will be on for gamage Friday night.  I explained he has to do the prologue bit (30 mins) before we can coop i will transfer the game to him tonight so hopefully he will get that done before we all get on Friday

So 4 player coop those zombies don't stand a chance :-)
