Had a crack at PA yesterday and I really like it. It is proper epic in scale with units ranging from small tanks and bots up to orbital fighters and hunter killer satellites.

One of the best features is that you can leave the starting planet and jet off to another planet or moon. Form there you can set up a huge manufacturing base and hump massive army’s through a teleporter to the main planet for some epic battles.

There is no unit cap that I can see so you end up with oceans of units clashing together unleashing absolute carnage.

The other thing you can do which is unique is travel out to t a moon or asteroid, build some massive engines on it, then slam it into the enemy base.

Yea defiantly, got until 10ish tonight. The download is only 800 megs odd so you should have it in about 3 seconds.

I can talk you through the basics then we can do a 2 v 1 with some AI.

I am still not 100% clear on what all the structures do and I can’t get on any game related web sites at work. Dunno if you can get on the wiki or anything and take a look so we can fill in the blanks.

No problem, it’s just that total annihilation had the same dynamic economy as planetary annihilation. It’s not complicated really just a bit different from most RTS games.

I think we had best start a game with a sandbox AI (i.e. one that just sits there and does nothing) then I can run through how to operate things.

Good shout, it is easy really. Just keep an eye on the energy and metal levels and try not to let either run down. If you do get into trouble, pause any big buildings or factory queues until you can build more energy plants or metal extractors. When you have the deficit dealt with, un-pause the buildings / factories and let them resume. You do not lose anything from pausing constructions.

The other thing to keep in mind is to build a few energy and metal storage units. This give you a bit of a buffer to collect excess resources at slow times to be used if you suddenly have to build shit loads of turrets or summing.

One last thing, you can set factory to repeat build orders. So if you tell it to build one tank, one anti air & one artillery, you can then tell it to repeat that queue forever. That way you can have like 20 factories permanently pumping out units to utterly overwhelm the enemy.

Don’t know about you but I did enjoy our little foray into PA on Friday. I had a little go on Saturday with a normal AI and it is an entirely different animal.

When we next play, I think it should be us vs a 1.0 AI at the minimum. At least I assume that the 1.0 is how you set the difficulty.

On that note I might be on for a bit today as I can’t be assed to go running if you wanted a quick go.
