There are some other games similar to DayZ and 7 Days on Steam - these are ones I had also looked into. I just thought I would post them up here incase Greg required more stuff to throw money at ;-)

Here ya go:

Rust
Nether

Speaking of which, it would be nice to get a decent game of this in when either of you have a moment. I have been itching to play multiplayer but what with Mark's house move, and you always being busy we never get a chance... :-(

I have no issue with giving it a go, it is just a case of setting aside a day for it. As it stands:
Monday = Rome 2
Tuesday = EVE
Wednesday = Jen
Thursday = DayZ
Friday = EVE
Saturday = Jen
Sunday = Jen

It is probably best for me to cut an EVE day, but I need to know in advance so I can tell the chaps I will not be about for ops. That said this week is already gone to cock as Jens birthday has thrown me out so probably only got Friday if you wanted to do it this week.

My good god Greg, that is some schedule. I dread to think of how many hours a week you game-it-up-some.

As it stands this week, Friday is good for me if you have it free.

Shiny! You shouldn't have much trouble with it, but I will do my best to ensure you are well briefed.

Well, given that you were playing for 15 minutes I tried to ensure I got as much "bang for my buck" as I could. I thought my tank in space with 20 missile turrets was rather good, considering the time restraints.

Friday's event will hopefully be a little more than "build a ship in 5 minutes then blast eachother sky-high". I look forward to it.

To answer you Greg, I finished my contraption and began flying around destroying asteroids and other ships while he was still building. When he finished, we both agreed to have a little dog-fight. I destroyed him in a single volley. Thing is, I hadn't realised I had destroyed him, and thought he was hiding so I was continually letting off salvo after salvo until, 3 minutes later, he said "you already killed me" and I was just shooting nothing in a blind frenzy.

Yea I think a more gently cooperative approach will work best for me. I have only played the most basic version so I am going to have to learn from the ground up.

Indeed. We can finally build a gigantic flying guinea-pig, with a hanger for an anus and then smash it into an asteroid.... or something. :-)

I know we all have games coming out of our earholes ATM, but Rust is another one that is worth keeping an eye on - for you, especially, Greg, because when I heard Stalker mentioned in a passage about it, I thought of you:
Rust is a survival game that started off as a DayZ clone and transitioned into a STALKER-inspired world where players build their own buildings and defenses. The game has a very open world feel with elements of the post apocalypse playing a major role in how you go about your daily activities.
So, maybe waiting to see what this one turns into...

I know what you mean, they have all come out pretty close to eachother, and all very similar.

The one thing to be wary of with Rust (from the reviews I have read), is the community for it. As (like DayZ) they currently do not allow you to host your own server, the existing ones are full of griefers that will just repeatedly kill you for no reason other than to piss you off.

7 Days To Die (at least in my humble opinion) looks to be the best of the bunch currently anyway. My brief time on DayZ did not inspire me with confidence and if Rust is anything like that then I will wait before committing to buying it.

There must be some reason they limit the serves at alpha (despite the day 7 days manages not to??) but it is a real paint in the ass not being able to have a server to play on.

I mean in the case of DayZ, despite the fact I like it, I have never been able to do anything in the game. Having to rely on a 3rd party server to play the game in any way combined with limited resources makes it impossible to get a foot hold.

If they just put an option to run a single player game allowing you to roam about by yourself, that would be better than nothing. That way a player can at least experience what it might be like to find some food and god forbid….a gun on the game.
