I have just been looking into some of the easter eggs and secrets in Dead Island. Here is a run-down of some of the info: 

- You can find Jason (from Friday the 13th). Killing him gets you a Chainsaw!

- Developers Craft Mods. These are special, very powerful mods that can be acquired by collecting different coloured skills and placing them in certain locations.

- A special melee weapon called The Left Hand of Glova can be crafted. It is effectively a high-powered electro-glove by the sounds of it. Emperor Palpatine eat-your-heart-out.

- Super fast experience. I don't know if this exploit still works (it may have been patched away), but may be worth a try

- Not really sure what exactly this one does. Rumor has it that it changes the stats of the Machete in the Jungle Catacombs level - but others say it does nothing.
