I noticed a game called Firefall that is a free-to-play MMO shooter. Could show potential - maybe worth a look for us?

Yes it may be worth a shot. Will have to get around to installing it at some point to give it a go.

Lot's of free-to-play games seem to be coming out recently!

Been looking at reviews and previews of this game and it all looks very promising. Although I should note that this is yet another "Free-to-play-but-pay-to-win" game by the looks of it. Still, may be worth losing a few hours in. Since it's an MMO, teamwork and multiplayer are guaranteed to be fun.

Typically all of these sites are blocked from my gay work PC. Anyone got a brief synopsis?

Basically Borderlands 2 with bugs instead of bandits and better graphics.

It is also free to play but don't worry you can throw real money at it :-)

...Or an even better synopsis would be:

Once upon-a-time, there lived a man. We shall refer to him as "Dan". Dan! Dan! Dan! Dan!....... Dan! Dan! Dan! Dan!....... Dan! Dan! Dan! Dan! Dan! Dan! Dan!..... Dan!.... Dan!

The Earth was on the brink of total destruction. A huge lump of blue jelly had invaded the world. The only safe-haven seemed to be a country known as "Brazil", where a few humans remained, attempting to battle the seemingly never-ending mound of jelly and the hordes of illegal aliens pouring out of it.

Dan was a man with simple tastes. He enjoyed shooting things. He was hired by a sugar farmer in Brazil to help stop illegal aliens from getting into the country. Apparently, touching this jelly made your hair stand on-end (it also killed you), and so it was paramount that Dan learned the ways of the "FPS" to stop it.

I have long since desired a game were one can combat gelatinous masses in South America. This sound like the answer to my prayers.

Sounds like a winner then Greg. By the way, for those of you that did not get my subtle rip-off of Alan Partridge in the last post, please click here
and prepare to be amazed (you will need sound).

So i played this for about 3 hours last night and its not bad.  The tutorial does take a while and it is probably about an hour before you can actually play it.

This is where i found a couple of problems...

Firstly the map is huge and there doesn't seem to be a fast travel system i could see.  So lots of walking but lots of people seemed to have vehicles not sure how you get one of them but that would be much better.

The other thing is the missions they seem to be for everyone and as long as you are in the mission zone when someone completes it you get the xp.  They randomly spawn all over the map so i spent a lot of time walking from mission to mission only for someone to complete it before i even got there!  Was a bit frustrating but i did note that most of the missions seemed to be group missions which will be good for co-op.

So i haven't made my mind up yet on this one it certainly hasn't impressed me as much as Warframe has but i think this is more a co-op game than a solo game.  If we can sort out the transport issue i think it could be good fun for lannage and you get some really big guns :-)

You even get a mini-gun that actually kills things as in most games they are crap.

Hmmm, so it's not all that then by the sounds of it. I will still give it a go, but I am loving Warframe too much at the moment so will stick with it then.

Thank-you, cheers, tar for that review of ultimate significance.

I wouldn't say it's a bad game it does have some great little features the one i really liked is you can change everything about your character at anytime.

So if you choose the recon kit and don't like it normally you would be boned but on this you can change it.  If you gave yourself a tash and then change your mind 20 hours in no problem just change you appearance.

It definately needs a bit longer before i decide but i think it is a co-op only game.

What about the pay-to-win element? How does that all factor in?

To be expected with a free-to-play game I suppose.

What's the character customization and RPG element like? If it's really simple and everyone is running around with the same kit I may be less inclined to play. That was one of the biggest reasons I disliked Neverwinter in the end.

Haven't yet - and wasn't planning to play that tonight anyway. Think we should plow on with Warframe ATM.
