I was just wondering if anyone has or is going to pledge any money for this game? It looks like you get additional ships and other stuff with the more you pay.

Got to admit, I am very apprehensive about doing so. Firstly, because we have no real guarantee that the game will be any good (although we can live in hope). Secondly, because I don't like this idea of "pay-to-win", that more and more game developers seem to be using these days. It seems outrageous that people that have more money should get all the benefits in-game and I am really disappointed that this game is going that way - this alone does not feel me with hope and is another reason why I am not sure about putting any money up-front.

The last reason, is that if this game is fully-moddable and you can run dedicated servers, surely the admin would be able to do anything they wanted (like giving people credits and ships), meaning these special "limited edition" ships and the like would be pointless - as you could just be given them by admin. Granted if you play on their official server this would not be the case, but still something worth thinking about.

I think what with recent events I will be holding off on this one as I have been burned too many times by games promising the world and then shafting the players royally. Even though this is a game I really hope is as good as it looks like it will be, I cannot help but wonder...

I too dislike the ‘pay to win’ game idea, however I am exactly the kind of muppet that gets sucked in by it and ends up giving them money.

Also no more pre ordering……ever.

I haven't pledged any money so far i was tempted to put in a little bit to get the free ship but no more than that.  I haven't researched it fully but as i understand the more you pay the more you get.

The only reason i was thinking of doing this is you may get early access and like a said a free ship to start you off.  As you said this will only be effectiove on the offical servers but i do plan on playing on these as well as dedicated ones.

However like you it does annoy me if you pay loads you get all the nice ingame stuff.  I haven't decided but even if i do i will not pledge much maybe £10.  I will wait untill they at least have a release date before i make my mind up but i think this was estimates 2015?

Sounds logical to me, I was just seeing what other's thought. Hold off until it's closer to launch (no pun intended) sounds like a plan.
