So... what are your top 5 games of all-time? Give us a run down with quick comments as to why you picked them.

My list was a difficult one, since there are so many. Here we go:

1. Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2: I dread to think how many hours I have lost in these games. They are nothing short of pure perfection.
2. Batman: Arkham City: I cannot think of anything bad to say about this game. It should be a mandatory requirement for every gamer.
3. Diablo 2: The most fun I have ever had in a LAN game.
4. Knights of The Old Republic: The best Star Wars game ever made - a superb game in every right.
5. Dragon Age: Origins: Brilliant setting, characters, story and slick, tactical combat. Excellent.

Runners Up
These games so closly missed out on the top 5. If there was a top 10, they would be in it for sure.

- Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines
- Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Skyrim
- Gothic 2
- Jedi Knight II (and Jedi Academy)
- Freelancer

Hounourable Mentions
Great games, but did not quite make it onto the list:

Bioshock, Borderlands 2, Torchlight 2, Half Life 2, Garry's Mod, Left 4 Dead 2, Battlefield 2, Assassins Creed II, Deus Ex (and Deus Ex Human Revolution), Unreal Tournament 2004, Race Driver: Grid, Need for Speed Underground 2, Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City, Doom 1 and 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Worms 2, Quake.

I came across this article recently - regarding one of my top games of all time. It says everything you need to know about a flawed gem of a game that has not yet been bested (or even attempted) by any other game again... yet... It's a real shame too, as we need more of this type of game. I think we have all grown tired of the same generic FPS releases and boring copies of sub-par games. We want something truly unique, awe-inspiring and amazing - just like this game.

I suppose the next game that shows hints of being truly amazing is our dear Star Citizen - which has recently reached 8.5 million $$$$!

Aliens Colonial marines is a fine game! How else would I get to experience a Xenomorph inexplicably float through a solid metal crate before standing in front of me doing jazz hands? Anyone that is not moved by this wondrous image smells of old biscuits.

Ah yes, the Jazz Hands were pretty damn spectacular. I also loved the addition of not being able to shoot through an open door, AI that was more stupid than a brainless moth suffering from down syndrome and lastly - the epic graphics that were so good it made my eyes sting.

one of my personal highlights was the tedious end boss fight. On my first attempt to shoot the queen out of the loading bay with the conveniently placed catapult, everything was lined up perfectly, the queen was scratching her arse by the door so I fired the catapult. The game then decides that this sequence must be repeated at least two times to extended the monotony so decides to glitch the queen away from the door and invert her over the drop ship where she remained indefinitely screeching at the celling .

How can you possibly refute that this is one of the finest games ever made?

Well, my end boss fight was not as epic as this, though I wished it had been.

Check out this
video of other great moments from this amazing game :-)

If you want to laugh until your sides split, check out this video
. It definitely takes the cake as one of the most buggy games ever - but is hilariously funny! Reminds me so much of some of the weird and wonderful things you can get up to in Garry's Mod.

Those videos are fantastic! I could not agree more with one of the comments on the aliens video, I will not be pre-ordering anymore games.

Yeah me neither. Did you make the same mistake I did and pre order Colonial Marines then?

Those videos of that skating game are well funny. If you have the time I highly recommend looking at the other parts to it.

Yep, pre ordered two copies for me and Jen. She was looking forward to it more even more than me so she was devastated when it turned out tosh.

I will check out some other videos when I get the chance. Don't know if it's your cup of tea of not but have you seen the videos by Robbaz? he just pisses about with games whilst doing commentary. Some of his videos with the Kerbal Space Program are pretty good.

Just thought I would start up this thread again, adding some further questions. Please reply with your lists :-)

Top 5 most played games
Top 5 games that have wasted your money

If you can't think of 5 for each category, just bung in as many as you see fit. You can also add some additional comments if you feel like it.

I will start off:

My top 5 most played games
1. Neverwinter Nights (1 & 2) (I have played this so much that I should be in the Guiness Book of Records for sure ;-))
2. Diablo 2 (I, and my friends lost countless time on this one)
3. Freelancer (trading, trading, trading)
4. Knights of the Old Republic (re-played this one more times than I can remember)
5. Unreal Tournament 2004 (many an-hour spent happily blasting people away in this superb game)

My top 5 games that have wasted my money
1. Aliens: Colonial Marines (no explanation required)
2. GTA IV (didn't even get to play it due to the buggy, DRM-filled mess it was)
3. Duke Nukem Forever (we waited all that time for this...? Seriously?)
4. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (meh)
5. Diablo 3 (although entertaining at first, the cracks began to show - and disappointment set in)

Cool, we have very similar tastes. A lot of your most played games I have all really liked. The only ones on that list I have not played are FSX? and Stalker.

As for wasted cash, the only one of those I played is Bioshock - and I loved that.

FSX is Microsoft Flight Sim 10 (X). Still play it when I feel to practice some instrument approaches in really bad weather conditions. I use the M Panel for FSX as well.
(Radio, Autopilot, Comms, Flaps, Gear etc)

I never got into Bioshock. Maybe it's time to install it and try it again!?! ;-)

I enjoyed the first Bioshock - not everyone's cup of tea though. You may like Deus-Ex - Human Revolution too, if you haven't played that. That is a fairly new one that I really enjoyed. I enjoyed the originals too (they have dated quite a lot now though).

You seem to be quite into the SIM-type games. I don't know if you have ever played it (or heard of it), but something like Kerbal Space Program may be right up your street. They are still actively developing it and it's shaping up to be a sound game. I really enjoy that, and will no doubt come back to it soon ;-)

I've seen that Kerbal Space Program, but never tried it. I'll look into that one!

I am a trained commercial pilot/instructor so it's not strange that I like sims LOL!
If I had tons of cash to spare, I would build myself a real simulator at home ;-)

Ah, cool, I didn't know that. That's awesome! No wonder you know your stuff ;-)

I definitely recommend Kerbal to you, that's a proper space-sim. Don't think just because it has "cartoonish" graphics that it's not an adult game, because it really is. If you check out the videos section of my site you can see a trip to the moon in my self-built rocket ship.

It's got a steep learning curve, but if you persist with it you will find hours of enjoyment out of it. You get to build your own ships and launch them into space. You can land on other planets, build space-station (and dock at them) and pretty much anything you can imagine. Check out the demo if you are interested.
