I just hope the game does live up to expectations. You would think it would what with the amount of money people have thrown at it. The last thing we need is another A:CM.

Good for them it is brave in this market to cut out consoles but it means the game will kick ass :-)

My thoughts exactly. I just hope the hype is justified, because by all counts it does look set to be brilliant.

Additionally, take a peek at some gameplay footage here
.

The opposite, in-fact. I highly recommend you check it out. Release pushed back, again, to 2017 as well. :-(

It does look fucking amazing even from that video. Is the Alpha available for general release?

From an email i recently got from them:

We’re very excited to announce that Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 is now available for all players! This release includes the very first elements of Star Citizen’s Persistent Universe, including large world maps, multi-crew ships, FPS combat and more!
We invite you to explore a multitude of new locations around the gas giant Crusader. Start your journey at the massive Port Olisar transit station and then play alongside friends and enemies as you explore scenic asteroid fields, complex communications arrays, research satellites and even a derelict space station.
This release also adds a variety of flight-ready ships, including the powerful Retaliator bomber, the mighty Constellation Andromeda and new variants of the Avenger fighter. This is our biggest release yet, introducing everything from interior physics grids, quantum travel, EVA, first person combat, missions and much, much more.
Alpha 2.0 is the foundation for the Star Citizen’s Persistent Universe, and we’re extremely proud to allow backers this early look at a major milestone in building the BDSSE! Welcome to Crusader: it’s time to get back into space!

Not putting any money down for this at present, with all the things I have read about people getting refunds already. Besides, why waste money on a game that you won't see for at least another year. Remember A:CM? Also, this looks to be heading down MMO territory... if it does end up being like that I shan't be going anywhere near it.

I thought you had pre-ordered it for some reason. Well that is highly tits that it might be MMO. Why have they done that I wonder? Might as well just play EVE.

The problem with playing games with people other than Gregs is that they are a bunch of tossers.

Naa, I signed up for an account but have not put any money down yet (I was tempted a while ago). I am even more reluctant to do so after the recent issues I have read about.

I completely agree about "joe public's" though. They have said they would release dedicated server stuff for it, but I wonder how that will work with the current setup.

At present it looks very "pay-to-win", since you can pay loads of real money for better ships - how that would work on a server you host yourself I do not know, it all seems a bit weird - and I can't see how they will work around it.

With the MMO-side of things I think all we can do is just wait and see what becomes of it.

Incidentally, it hit BBC News.

Star Citizen is being split into two separate "modules" - single player and the "MMO" (persistent universe). Hmmmm.

More information here, here and here.

I am thinking of doing a kick starter to rival this, it’s called ‘Bar Citizen’ and it is a crummy universe full of graphical glitches and unexplainable uninstalls.

Will you please pledge £1500?

£1500.00 is a lot to ask. Will it feature left-handed emulation, veg eating simulation and taking anger management classes? If so, sign me up.
